The company running The Castle in Harrow on the Hill was wound up on 27 August. The pub still advertises normal hours; its last accounts showed a £321,694 deficit.

The company that has run The Castle in Harrow on the Hill for the past two years has gone into liquidation. Members and creditors of Spur Associates HA1 Pub Limited resolved to wind the company up at a meeting held remotely on Thursday 27 August. The notice was published in The London Gazette the following day (The Gazette).

The pub itself has not closed. On 2 September its own website was still advertising a full week of bar and kitchen hours (The Castle).

What the official record says

The two Gazette notices give the following (resolutions, appointment):

  • Company: Spur Associates HA1 Pub Limited, company number 15933842
  • Trading as: The Castle Pub
  • Principal trading address: 30 West Street, Harrow HA1 3EF
  • Registered office: Jubilee House, Townsend Lane, London NW9 8TZ
  • Type: creditors’ voluntary liquidation
  • Date of appointment: 27 August 2026
  • Liquidator: Zain Iqbal of Cooper Young, 109 Snakes Lane, Woodford Green IG8 0DY

The company was incorporated on 3 September 2024, so it held the pub for just under two years (Companies House). As at 2 September its Companies House entry still showed the company as active. The register lags the Gazette by weeks in cases like this, so the two records disagreeing is normal rather than a sign that anything has changed.

The accounts showed the pressure a year ago

The company filed accounts for its first trading period, 3 September 2024 to 30 September 2025, in March this year (Companies House filing history). They are filleted small-company accounts, so they show the balance sheet but not turnover or profit.

What they do show is a company already deep in the red at that year end:

Item at 30 September 2025 Amount
Stock £22,350
Debtors £14,455
Cash at bank and in hand £2,598
Total current assets £39,403
Trade creditors £111,173
Social security and other taxes £141,107
Other creditors £105,000
Owed to group companies £3,817
Creditors due within one year £361,097
Shareholders’ deficit (£321,694)

The single largest line is £141,107 of social security and other taxes. The company also reported an average of 25 employees over the period.

Only the Harrow company is affected

Spur Associates runs several pubs through separate companies, and the Harrow one is the only one in liquidation. Companies House shows Spur Associates TW1 Pub Limited, Spur Associates SW13 Pub Limited, Spur Associates Alpha Limited and Spur Associates Ltd all still listed as active on 2 September.

The Castle’s own website links two sister pubs, neither of them in Harrow: The Crossing at 73 White Hart Lane in Barnes, which was trading normally on 2 September, and The New Inn in Ham, whose website was not resolving.

The pub is one of Harrow’s most significant buildings

The Castle is grade II listed, built in 1901 on a site with roots back to 1716, and it is on CAMRA’s National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. That is a short national list of pub interiors judged to have survived largely intact. CAMRA’s own entry records three real coal fires and a secluded beer garden, and names the pub as its Harrow branch Pub of the Year in 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2025 (CAMRA WhatPub).

The same entry describes The Castle as a Fuller’s house and records that the pub “converted to tenanted and is now part of a small pub company”. CAMRA does not name that company, and the Gazette notices do not name a landlord.

What it means for you

A creditors’ voluntary liquidation is a process the company’s own members start. It is not a court finding and it is not an allegation of wrongdoing against anyone. Anyone owed money by the company, including former staff, should contact the named liquidator, Zain Iqbal at Cooper Young, on 020 8498 0163.

If you hold a booking, a gift voucher or a deposit for a function, ask the pub directly who you are now contracting with. A liquidated operating company cannot honour anything, but a pub trading on under a different company can. We could find no statement from the operator about the liquidation on the pub’s website or anywhere else on 2 September.

For anyone simply wanting a pint: the pub was open and advertising its usual hours as this was published. We will update this page if that changes.
