Wealdstone High Street has reopened at Locket Road and all ten diverted bus routes are back on their normal stops, TfL's records showed on 1 November.

Updated Sunday 1 November: the road has reopened. TfL’s road disruption data no longer lists any closure on the High Street, and its bus status feed shows routes 140, 182, 258, 340, 640, H9, H10 and N140 on a good service, with no Wealdstone diversion on the 186 or N18. The diversion table below is kept as a record of how the buses ran during the closure.

Wealdstone High Street was closed until the evening of Friday 30 October after a burst water main flooded the road in the early hours of Friday 23 October.

TfL’s road disruption record shows the A409 High Street shut in all directions at the junction with Locket Road from 4.20am on 23 October. Its planned end is 6pm on Friday 30 October. Ten bus routes are on diversion for the same period.

Harrow Council said at 6am on Friday that there was “major flooding in Wealdstone High Street by the junction with George Gange Way”, caused by a burst water main. By 8am it said the street was closed between Locket Road and the junction of Ellen Webb Drive and Masons Avenue.

The council’s 1pm update said repairs to the main were under way. Once they are finished, work on the road and pavements will start.

Is the water back on?

Yes. Affinity Water’s incident notice for HA3 says a technician adjusted the network at 5.30am to restore supply to all affected customers. By 6.40am it said everyone was expected to have water, with no further impact on supplies.

If your water comes through cloudy or discoloured, Affinity says that is normal after a burst and not harmful. Run the cold tap until it clears.

What it means for you

  • If you take the bus through Wealdstone, allow extra time all week and check which stop you need before you set off. Harrow & Wealdstone Station is the boundary for most of the diversions.
  • If you drive, avoid the High Street between Locket Road and Masons Avenue. The council asked drivers to follow the signed diversions and allow extra time.
  • Half term starts on Monday, so school-run traffic will be lighter, but the closure covers the whole week. Our half term listings cover what is on.
  • The 6pm Friday end time is TfL’s planned date, not a promise. Road and pavement repairs follow the pipe repair, and the date could move either way.

Other closures across the borough this week are on our Harrow roadworks and travel page.
